Artist Biography:
Katherine Bernhardt (American, b. 1975) is a young artist who has garnered an impressive reputation and following among collectors worldwide. Known for her expressionist portraits of models ripped straight from fashion magazines, she paints from the perspective of an obsessed fan – with a directness and energy that is straight out of a can. Prior to this series, her paintings focused on abstraction, incorporating landscapes, modernist architecture and collage. Since receiving her Master of Fine Arts in 2000, Bernhardt's work has been collected by Charles Saatchi and has been exhibited extensively both in New York and abroad. About the Work:Untitled is a beautiful example of Bernhardt's early investigations, before her transition into a more gestural abstraction, as seen in Dollface. Her process and development with line, color and composition are accentuated by this small, intimate drawing of an interior. As if in a conversation, the fans and stereo dialogue compositionally with one another, with bursts of color and dynamic lines - Bernhardt gives life to these everyday objects. Market Information:Bernhardt's work is in prominent collections such as Saatchi and has been critically acclaimed by notable critics as Jerry Saltz. For an artist of this recognition, her works are refreshingly reasonable in price.
